Is there an age limit for rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is subject to age restrictions, depending on the development of nose. It is not performed in women under the age of 17 years, and men under the age of 18 years. There is no established upper age limit for this type of surgery. Anybody who has completed nose development can have this surgery.

How long is the rhinoplasty surgery?

The operating duration may vary depending on the technique used and issues that need to be addressed. Open surgery may take up to 3 hours.

Is it possible to eliminate breathing problems by rhinoplasty?

Deformities in a patient’s nose and problems like concha growth may cause breathing problems especially during sleeping. It may significantly impair quality of life for the patient. During rhinoplasty, breathing problems are also addressed by correcting enlarged concha, the shape of nasal wings or lifting the nose tip.

Is rhinoplasty painful?

Rhinoplasty used to be painful. In particular, the plugs used and casts placed on the patient’s nose were a significant inconvenience. But today, the new techniques and breathing plugs makes recovery a relatively comfortable and relaxed experience.

How do expectations and outcomes coalesce in rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty may require a recovery period of up to 6 months. Most patients expects results immediately after surgery, and this may cause some degree of distress. Patience is essential to wait until the full result of surgery is achieved, which may take up to 6 months. The success rate is quite high in this type of surgery.

Should rhinoplasty be performed by a plastic surgeon or an otolaryngologist?

In rhinoplasty, functionality and aesthetics are intertwined. It would be better for a specialist who can address both needs to perform the surgery. Knowledge and experience are more important than specialty of a specialist who is to correct these functions. A plastic surgeon can, if they wish, improve themselves on function, and an otolaryngologist may do so for aesthetics. Ultimately, it is the person who will be performing surgery is important.

Which season is better suited for rhinoplasty?

Avoiding sunlight, wearing glasses and certain sports is necessary after rhinoplasty. Any season would be acceptable, as long as these precautions can be observed.

May I show photograph of a person that I particularly like?

Photograph of a particular nose shape that you like may be useful, as it would give an idea of your expectations. But you must not expect to have something identical to what you showed on a photograph, since not everything is practicable and it is important that the outcome suits the shape of your face.

When and how can I learn the details about what will be done in the surgery after the surgery day is finalized?

An appointment is planned for you to discuss all the details with the doctor before your surgery date, and all the details are conveyed by the doctor.

What should I do on or before the surgery?

All information such as how long before the operation you should be hungry and what time you should be in the hospital are given by contacting you 1 week before the operation.

Is there much bruising and swelling after rhinoplasty? Is there any risk? Is it going too hard?

Nose surgeries are no longer as difficult as they used to be, with the developing technology. The nose is shaped by using sound waves without breaking using a special device called piezzo. The open approach technique is applied. It is performed under general anaesthesia. There are risks in nose surgeries, as in any surgery.

All risks in this regard are detailed in the consent forms given in the interviews and in the consent forms signed before the surgery. Postoperative swelling and bruising are much less compared to nasal surgeries performed by breaking. Depending on skin sensitivity, the amount of swelling and bruising varies.

What should I pay attention to after nose surgery?

You are not allowed to eat or drink anything for about 3 hours after the surgery. At the end of this period, light meals such as soup are served. You can eat your favorite foods as soon as you start to feel good. You do not need to follow a special diet. After the operation, you need to constantly wash the inside of the nose. An informative brochure about the things to be considered after the surgery will be delivered to you.

When are plasters and tampons removed? Is it very painful? When will I achieve the result I want?

The plaster and tampons are removed 1 week after the nose surgery. Special silicone pads are used that do not prevent you from breathing. As long as you pay attention to your intranasal washing, removing the tampons is painless.

It is not possible to achieve the desired result in a short time. Achieving the desired result generally takes between 6 months and 2 years.

When should I come to the controls after the operation?

Since we follow our patients closely after nose surgery, you should come for a check-up at regular intervals. These periods are 1st week, 2nd week, 6th week, 6th month and 1st year after surgery.
